DC CIRCUITS LAB--setting up the circuit

What do we need to know in order not to blow the fuse? Anything else other than these?
And please correct me if I'm wrong.

1.) Red goes to red (positive) and black goes to black (negative)
2.) Ampmeter in series(part of circuit), voltmeter in paralel (just touch whats being measured)
3.) Red goes to white when measuring the current. When do we use the yellow?
4.) Turn the knob to 200mA. What number do we use when measuring V and R?

Thanks

  1. The fused input is the white one and it is only used to measure current. DO NOT PLUG ANYTHING INTO THE WHITE INPUT PLUG!!! Just use the YELLOW input plug. Unless Dr. R specifically says to use the fused 200mA input only use the YELLOW input to measure current. The red black thing doesn't matter you will end up getting the same number. If you switch the terminals the other way around you will get the negative of the number you got before:
    5V...switch terminals...-5V
For the multimeter you need to turn the knob when measuring anything to the proper amount of decimal places. If you pick the 20V setting and the meter shows a "1." it means the measured value is too big for the amount of decimal places at that setting, so you need to dial it up to the bigger one "2K V". If you get a "0." it means the measured value is too small so you need to dial it down "20mV"

  2. Thanks, Dante.
One more, when we're measuring the resistance its basically just like the voltmeter, but we turn the knob to ohm. Am I right?
